While innovators are testing out new fuels and super-efficient engines to reduce the environmental impact of flying, the impact of ground service has gotten less attention. But
Avjet Corp., a charter operator based at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California, recently opened the world’s first private aircraft hangar to be certified Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council. The hangar features a solar array that produces more than enough energy to supply the building’s needs plus power a fleet of electric tow vehicles. Special plumbing options and sustainable landscaping reduce water usage by 60 percent.
