Located in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, the Ocean House, which originally opened in 1868, closed in 2003 after falling into severe disrepair. The aging structure’s significant safety-code concerns would have made it excruciating to renovate, so its current owner carefully disassembled the old hotel—salvaging many of the historic interiors—and started building a replica of the Victorian-style estate from the ground up. The 13-acre property, which has its own 1,000-foot beach, will reopen in June with a new hotel featuring 49 guest rooms and 23 residences. Residences start at about $1.5 million.
